It is a well-known fact that Facebook has grown. Over the last 4 years it has gone from 337 million users in January 2010 to 1 billion users in November 2012.

The population on Facebook is not the only thing that has grown. The average age of users on Facebook has grown from 29.53 in January 2010 to 30.11 in November 2012. Interestingly, there was a dip in the average age during 2010-2011 which saw the average age fall to 29.48. However, this was short-lived as by January 2012 it had increase to 29.67.

Another interesting development on Facebook is the growth in gender diversity. It January 2010, 51 per cent of its users were female, opposed to 49 per cent male. This evened out to 50 per cent of each gender in January 2011. By January 2012, the male users began to take over with 52 per cent opposed to 48 per cent of users being female. This trend has continued throughout 2012 and by November male Facebook users comprised of 53 per cent.

There have also been changes among the top countries that use Facebook. Unsurprisingly, the United States have remained at the top throughout this time. However the other countries are quite surprising:

While all of these stats are interesting, I think that the most interesting revelation is how companies use Facebook. The number of businesses who are successfully utilising it to engage with their fans is continuing to grow. The companies using it most successfully are:
